My first hammer was a $12 flea market find, now I can't go back

Tbh I started in 2015 with this beat-up cross peen that had a loose handle and a face full of chips. I wrapped the grip in tape and used it for two years until I finally broke down and bought a proper forged hammer at a shop in Columbus for $80. The difference was night and day, less shock in my elbow and way cleaner strikes. Now I keep the old one around just for demo days, but every time I pick it up I feel the learning curve all over again. Has anyone else held onto their first hammer just for the nostalgia, even if it's basically useless now?

Keep that old hammer but flip the script on it. I turned my first one into a wall mount for my shop, drilled a hole in the head and hung a spare chain off it. It's a reminder of how far the wrist angle and grip have come, plus it doubles as a hook for my leather apron. Makes me smile every time I grab it, even though it couldn't drive a nail straight if its life depended on it.
