Spent 3 hours forging a bottle opener from a railroad spike and burned the tip off at the last heat
Was out in the garage last Saturday with my little propane forge trying to crank out a spike bottle opener for my buddy Dave's birthday. Had the twist done and the head shaped, then I pulled it out too hot and stuck it right in the water bucket, whole tip just popped off and cracked down the middle. I ended up welding the crack and re-forging the end into a flat pry tip instead, honestly looks kinda cool now. Any of you ever save a piece after a quench crack or do you just toss it back in the scrap pile?
