Accidental mirror trick fixed my lopsided coffee mug
I was trying to model a mug in Blender 3.6 and my handle kept coming out crooked no matter how many times I spun it. Out of frustration I just hit Ctrl+M then X to mirror it without thinking, and suddenly the whole shape snapped into symmetry. I spent like 40 minutes wrestling with vertex grabs before that accidentally saved me, so now I'm wondering if there's a way to mirror just part of a mesh or if I need to always start with a full object. Has anyone else found these random keyboard shortcuts by mashing keys late at night?
Man, that's such a classic Blender moment! Honestly, I think half the tricks I know in that program came from me accidentally hitting buttons while frustrated. But your mug thing actually speaks to a bigger pattern I notice everywhere, sometimes you gotta step back and flip your whole approach instead of fine-tuning the broken part over and over. Like when I'm trying to write a sentence that just won't sound right, rewriting it backwards or starting from the end usually cracks it open. Same with fixing a squeaky door hinge, you can keep tightening the same screw or just flip the whole hinge plate. There's something about forcing a mirror image or a fresh angle that shows you exactly where the lopsidedness lives in the first place. So yeah, maybe Blender's teaching you a life lesson, not just a modeling one, ha.
