Didn't realize I was using the scale tool wrong for 6 months until my donut looked like a pancake
So I started following the donut tutorial back in January and I was stuck on why my icing kept looking flat and squished no matter what I did. I thought I was just bad at modeling. Then last night I accidentally hit S and then Z on accident while messing around and the whole thing popped up like it was supposed to. Turns out I'd been scaling on all axes every single time, so I was just making everything wider, not taller. I felt so dumb. Has anyone else been stuck on something that basic for way too long because the tutorial skipped over the keyboard shortcuts?
A buddy of mine did the same thing with his first donut, spent weeks thinking his icing was cursed until he saw the little axis letters pop up when he hit S then Z. The Blender donut guy does say "scale on Z" but if you're new you don't even know what that means yet, so you just grab the widget and yank. Those shortcut keys should honestly be in giant letters at the top of every tutorial.
