Update: I paid for a 'premium' Q&A service that was just a repackaged free tool

Wasted about $80 on a subscription before realizing it was just a front end for a public API anyone can access. The answers were no better than what you'd get from a basic search. Has anyone found a genuinely useful paid service for this stuff?

Talked to a friend who quit her full-time job and it made me check my own rates

I was having coffee with a friend who just left her agency job to go solo. She told me she doubled her old hourly rate, to $150, right from the start because she knew her value. I always thought you had to start low and work your way up, you know? Hearing her say 'if they can pay an agency that much for my work, they can pay me' really hit different. It made me look at my own client list and realize I've been undercharging the same people for over two years. How do you figure out when it's the right time to raise your prices with existing clients?

I read that a huge number of people mess up their meringue because of one thing

I was looking at a baking science site yesterday and it said over 60% of failed meringues are because of even a tiny bit of fat or grease in the bowl. I always knew it was bad, but I didn't think it was that high. I found this out after my own lemon meringue pie turned into soup last weekend. Has anyone else had a meringue just completely fall apart on them?

My old way of measuring for drawers was a total mess

For years, I'd just eyeball the space, cut a piece of scrap wood as a story stick, and hope for the best. I once built a whole set of kitchen drawers for a client in Portland where every single one was a slightly different size, maybe by an eighth of an inch. It drove me nuts trying to get the slides to line up. The change came about six months ago when I was helping a friend in his shop and saw him use a simple digital caliper for everything. I bought one for thirty bucks and now I measure the opening in three places, write down the exact numbers, and cut to that. No more guessing, no more 'close enough' gaps. The old core shooter at the plant finally gave up the ghost yesterday.

It was a 1987 model we'd kept running with duct tape and hope for years. I had to pull the entire hydraulic manifold to find a cracked fitting that wasn't even on the schematics. Anyone know a good source for obsolete Graymills parts these days?

Honestly, it was a $15,000 lesson in checking those flange bolts for proper torque after every 250 hours, so has anyone else had a similar failure and what's your actual maintenance interval?

My fridge looked like a crime scene after a week of meal prep for my sister's wedding

I spent last Tuesday making 50 mini quiches and 3 gallons of pasta salad for the rehearsal dinner. My fridge was just a chaotic stack of containers and spilled sauce.
