Serious question, why does every new Blender model I see have 40,000 faces on a coffee mug?
I'm about three months into learning Blender, still very much a beginner, and I keep seeing the same thing in beginner posts (mine included until a week ago). Someone makes a simple object, a mug, a chair, an apple, and the poly count is way up in the tens of thousands. I did it myself with a cup I made back in March. Then I found out I could just add a subdivision surface modifier and keep the base mesh around 300 faces and it looks smoother than the version I hand-modeled for two hours. It matters because a heavy mesh slows down the rest of your project and it's a pain to fix later. Curious if anyone else fell into this when they first started, or if it's just me.
