The $45 UV light that finally fixed my donut render problem
Picked up a cheap UV lamp for my desk setup and turns out my scene was way too dark because my computer screen was messing with how I saw the shading, anyone else had lighting issues that were actually just your monitor?
Tbh I gotta ask, did the UV light actually fix the render problem or did it just make your eyes adjust to the darkness? Because I've been down that rabbit hole before where I thought my scene was broken and it turned out I was just staring at a gamma issue that only showed up on certain monitors. What kind of monitor are you running, IPS or VA? Cause that makes a huge difference with how shadows appear at an angle. I had a VA panel that made everything look crushed and dark no matter what I did in Blender, it drove me nuts for a week.
Quit chasing UV fixes and check your gamma lut first. Nine times out of ten it's the panel crushing blacks, not the render. I run IPS now so I calibrate once and forget it, but I still pull up a test chart before tweaking lights. Your VA theory holds up, those things eat shadow detail for lunch.
