I finally listened to my foreman about that new weld prep method

He pulled me aside on the Tulsa job last week and said 'you're burning through too much rod with that old bevel, try a 37.5 degree angle and a tighter root gap.' Tried it on a 2-inch pipe yesterday and my pass count dropped from five to three... anyone else have a small tip that saved a ton of time?

My old boss in Houston taught me the same trick.

But what if that trick only works in Houston? Different places have different ways of doing things. A method that saves time on one job site might cause problems on another because of local rules or even the weather. Maybe your boss's trick only worked with his specific suppliers or crew. It's risky to assume one solution fits everywhere.
