Had a book club member walk out mid-debate last Wednesday

We were arguing about whether the narrator in 'The Great Gatsby' is reliable or just biased, and one lady got so heated she just grabbed her coat and left. It's wild how much opinions have shifted since we started this group 3 years ago - back then everyone agreed on everything. Last month we had a similar blowup over a modern novel set in Detroit where half the group saw it as a love story and the other half called it a tragedy. Has anyone else's book club gotten way more combative over time?

Actually maybe the group just got too comfortable and people need to learn to disagree without storming out.

People are just like that everywhere now, even at my place splitting a check turns into a philosophical debate about fairness.

@sounds like @masondixon is right, the real debate should be over why we're still pretending math is the hard part.
