Has anyone else's book club switched from reading the book to watching the movie first?
Our club used to read the book first and then watch the adaptation after. We had this strict rule about not spoiling anything, and the debates were all about what got left out or changed. But after a rough stretch last fall where three people in a row showed up having only skimmed the book, we flipped the order. Now we watch the movie at someone's place on a Friday, then read the book for the next meeting. It's weird because the movie becomes our baseline, and the book feels like the extended cut. Some folks love it because it lowers the homework bar, but two members quit arguing it ruins the surprise. What do you all do, and has the order ever made or broke a discussion for you?
