Just realized our book club has argued about the same 3 books for 9 months
I sat down and counted the other day, and it hit me that we have spent 9 straight meetings going back and forth on the exact same three titles. Nine meetings. That is basically our whole reading year burned on the same fight about whether the ending of one book was lazy or genius. I am in a club of 8 people in Portland and we meet on the second Tuesday, and I swear we have not had a single calm discussion since spring. What really bugs me is that two people have not even finished reading, and they are the loudest ones in the room every time. I brought up at the start that we should just vote and move on, and I got talked over for 20 minutes. So now I am thinking about pushing a rule where the same book cannot come up twice in a row, no matter who wants to relitigate it. Does your club have a cutoff for how long a debate can run, or do you just let it go until people run out of steam?
