My book club nearly fell apart over a 40 page disagreement in Austin
Last month our club in Austin picked a 600 page novel and I was the only one who finished it by the meeting. When I brought up the ending, three people admitted they had only read the first 40 pages and the whole talk turned into a fight about whether that counts as reading the book. I tried to save it by asking everyone to name one thing they liked, but Dana said that was a cop out and left early. We lost two members over it and honestly I am not sure the group survives the next pick. How do you all handle it when half the club shows up without finishing the book?
Wait, Dana called naming one thing you liked a cop out? That's not a cop out, that's the only way to keep a book talk from turning into a fight about who read what.
