Finally got my case square after 4 nights of fighting a warped board

So I've been working on a case binding for a friend's anniversary gift, and I cut the boards from a piece of Davey board that I thought was flat. It was not flat. Every time I cased in, the front cover would pull and you could see daylight under a straightedge. I tried weighting it overnight, no luck. I tried misting it and pressing it between wax paper for two days, still off by maybe 3/32 of an inch at the head. Tuesday night I finally just re-cut both boards from a fresh sheet and glued them up with a bit more paste than usual, and it sat dead flat by morning. Four evenings on something that should have taken one. The annoying part is I had a fresh sheet sitting right there the whole time and didn't want to waste it. Lesson learned, I guess, but mostly I'm just glad the gift won't look like a funhouse mirror. Has anyone else had a batch of board go wavy like that, or did I just get a bad sheet?

Had the same thing happen with a batch I got last winter. Whole sheet had a slight curve to it and I kept trying to fight it instead of just grabbing a new piece. Now I check every sheet against the table before I cut anything.
