My mentor in Portland told me I was using my bone folder wrong for 2 years
She watched me crease a signature and just said "you're rubbing, not pressing." Turns out I was using way too much force and compressing the paper fibers instead of making a clean fold. Now I barely touch it and the books look way cleaner. Anyone else get a simple piece of feedback that changed their whole method?

My mechanic told me the same thing about my brake pads last week - "you're dragging, not stopping." Funny how we learn the hard way that less pressure usually does more work.

you're rubbing, not pressing" - that's actually a really good way to put it. It reminds me of when a friend told me I was "painting, not gluing" with my paste pot in bookbinding. I was spreading adhesive in thin layers like I was watercoloring instead of just using enough to get a solid bond. Made a huge difference once I started using less paste but actually pressing it into the fibers. Funny how a tiny shift in pressure can totally change the result.
