The customer who asked me to bind their cat's diary
Last month a woman came into my shop in Portland holding a ziplock bag of shredded paper and a photo of her cat. She told me it was his diary and that he dictated it to her every night, so she wanted it rebound as a keepsake. I spent two hours sorting through the scraps trying to find any actual words, but it was mostly grocery lists and a few doodles that looked like mice. She paid me $85 for a custom cloth cover with his paw print stamped on it anyway. I still think about that job every time I trim a text block, has anyone else gotten a wildly odd request that you just went along with?
