Pro tip: I stuck a $2 moisture meter in my monstera pot and it saved me from overwatering
I kept killing monsteras for like 2 years straight. Yellow leaves, mushy stems, the whole sad deal. A lady at the plant swap in Portland told me to ditch the finger test and just grab a cheap moisture meter off Amazon for 12 bucks. I felt kind of silly sticking a probe in the dirt every time, but it turns out my "dry" soil wasn't dry at all down near the roots. Now I only water when the meter reads a 3 or lower at 4 inches deep. My big monstera has pushed out 3 new leaves since March. But here's my question for you all: is relying on a gadget lazy, or is it just smart? Some folks argue you should learn to read the plant itself. What do you do?
