The guy at the garden center in Dayton pulled a dead stem off my fern and told me why
Stopped by a garden center off Route 48 in Dayton about two weeks ago to grab potting soil and got talking to an older guy working the greenhouse. He reached over, snapped a brown frond off my Boston fern, and said "this one's drowning, the pot has no hole." I had it in a decorative pot with no drainage for almost a year and just kept watering it. He flipped it over, showed me the soggy mess at the bottom, and told me to repot it in something with holes and let it dry out between drinks. Fern is actually pushing new shoots now. Curious if anyone else learned the hard way that the pretty pot is usually the problem?
