The vermicompost bin that flipped my opinion on worm farming
I started a worm bin in my Denver apartment after every gardening forum swore it was the easiest way to compost. Three weeks in, the whole thing smelled like rotten eggs and my red wigglers were escaping by the dozen. I kept tweaking, less food, more bedding, more holes, but it stayed a wet mess. Then I realized my city's tap water had heavy chlorine treatment, which killed the good bacteria. I switched to letting water sit out 24 hours before adding it, and within a month the bin balanced out. Now it's on my back porch and working fine, but I almost gave up twice. My question is this: does anyone else have to dechlorinate municipal water for indoor bins, or do you just run a cheap filter? I'd love to know if I was overthinking it.

Tap water killed it, you say? Could just be the soggy bottom.
