TIL my pothos actually got worse in fancy potting soil, so I went back to plain old dirt from outside
Everyone in my plant group keeps pushing these $25 bags of airy chunky mix, so I switched my two pothos over last fall. Six months later they were droopy, yellowing, and one lost four leaves. I moved them back into basic potting soil from the hardware store, $6 a bag, and both threw out new growth in under three weeks. My aunt in Boise has kept the same pothos alive for 11 years in plain dirt on her porch, so maybe the fancy mix is just marketing. Anyone else gone back to simple soil and had better luck?
Tried that chunky mix too and my plants hated it. Turns out the stuff drains so fast the roots dry out between waterings, so plain dirt holds some water and the plant actually drinks.
