Everybody says cloth napkins are the easiest cheap upgrade for making dinner feel bougie, so I grabbed six wrinkled ones for $6 at a garage sale off 7th Street last month. Here's my problem: nobody mentions the laundry. I now own 14 napkins because I ran out in nine days and had to buy more at Goodwill for $3, and I spend about 25 minutes ironing them every Sunday while my coffee goes cold. My grocery store paper napkins cost $4 for 200 and lasted two months without a single chore attached. I did the math and cloth is not actually saving me money once I count the water, the electricity, and the hour of my life. So my unpopular take is that paper napkins win for anyone who eats at home most nights, unless you truly enjoy ironing. Am I the only one who fell for this, or does someone have a trick to keep these things from looking like crumpled receipts?
