DAE think those $30 "luxury" candle dupes are a total scam after what I saw at a yard sale in Boise?
Everyone in this group keeps pushing those $30 candle dupes from the big stores, but I stopped buying them last spring. I was at a yard sale in Boise and this older lady sold me a half burned $4 soy candle from a local farm stand that smelled better than any $40 jar I ever owned. She told me the trick is just looking for real soy wax and cotton wicks, not the fancy labels. So now I hit up estate sales and farmer's markets instead of dropping real money on packaging. Has anyone else found cheap candles that actually beat the pricey ones, or am I just getting lucky?
Curious how you actually spot real soy wax at a yard sale since most sellers have no clue what's in the jar. Do you check for that smooth, cloudy look and a wick that isn't poking out all stiff? I keep getting burned on mystery wax, so a quick test would help.
