The $4 thrift store candlesticks that made my rental kitchen look like a magazine spread
I grabbed two mismatched brass candlesticks for $4 total at the Goodwill on 5th street last Tuesday, cleaned them with ketchup and a rag, and suddenly my boring countertop with the toaster and coffee maker looked intentional, so has anyone else found that one weird trick that ties a whole room together for under $10?

Wait till the ketchup smell fades and you realize they're just tarnished again in a week. I did the whole vinegar and baking soda thing on some brass once and honestly the room looked exactly the same, just with shinier junk on the counter. Rental kitchens need more counter space, not more stuff to dust around the coffee maker. If two $2 candlesticks make the place feel like a magazine spread, that magazine is probably called "Cramped Apartment Living".
