Frozen veggies vs canned: which is the better budget buy when the power goes out?
Last summer during a storm, my power went out for 2 days in Austin. I had a freezer full of frozen broccoli and peas that all went bad. That cost me about $12 worth of food I had to toss. I ended up using some old canned green beans I had in the pantry for soup instead. Do you guys stock up on canned stuff for emergencies or do you stick with frozen and hope the power stays on?

This whole thing is part of a bigger pattern I see everywhere. People treat their fridge and freezer like it's some invincible food storage system. But one storm or one broken appliance and you're out a lot more than $12. That's just how life works - you gotta plan for the bad days, not just the good ones. Canned stuff is boring and takes up shelf space but it's the only thing that actually sits there and waits for you. Frozen is great until the moment it's not.

Yeah exactly, my power went out for 3 days after a storm last year and I lost a whole freezer full of meat and veggies. Now I keep a few cans of chili and soup in the pantry just in case, boring but they are there when you need em.
