I added up what I spent on lunch for one school year and the number made me sit down
I grabbed food on the way to work almost every morning last school year. Nothing fancy, just a breakfast sandwich and a coffee, sometimes a burrito at lunch if I forgot to pack anything. Last week I finally added it all up out of curiosity and it came to $1,340 from August to May. That is basically a car payment, or a decent vacation, just gone. The thing that got me was the small stuff, $6 here and $9 there never felt like anything in the moment. Now I make a batch of egg muffins on Sunday and keep a thermos of coffee in my bag, and I am already saving around $50 a week. Has anyone else actually done the math on their own food spending and been shocked by it?
Wait, you spent over thirteen hundred dollars just on food you grabbed on the way to work? That is wild to me, mostly because I used to do the exact same thing and never once stopped to add it up. The part that really got me was the $6 and $9 amounts, because you are right, those never feel like real money in the moment. It is only when you stack them all up that you see how fast it adds up. I started making a big pot of oatmeal and keeping coffee at home, and it is crazy how much that alone changed things. Good for you for actually doing the math and fixing it.
