My lentils turned into a bean volcano on laundry day
Last Tuesday in my tiny Richmond kitchen, I tried to speed up a lentil soup by cranking the heat while the washer was mid-cycle, and the pot erupted foam everywhere like a science fair disaster. The kitchen floor looked like a swamp and the load of towels in the dryer smelled like garlic for a week. Has anyone else had a budget meal go sideways because you multitasked too hard, or am I just the champion of messy shortcuts?
Once I burned a whole pot of chili because I was folding laundry on the couch and the timer never went off. The smoke detector went off and the fire alarm guy showed up, but the chili was beyond saving. After that, I started setting a separate alarm just for the stove, like ten minutes before anything is supposed to be done. It sounds dumb but it’s saved me from at least three more disasters since.
