My mother in law said my beans were watery so I quit using the cheap canned ones
For like 8 years I made chili with the 89 cent cans of kidney beans and just dumped the whole thing in, liquid and all. My mother in law came over for the game in November and took one bite and said "this tastes like bean soup with meat in it." I was pretty mad at the time but she was right, I was basically paying for water. So I started buying dried pinto beans at the Mexican market near my place, a 1 pound bag runs like a buck fifty and makes way more than two cans. I soak them overnight, throw in a onion and some garlic cloves, and simmer them while I do other stuff. The chili now costs me about $4 less per pot and honestly tastes way better, thicker too. I know people say dried beans are a hassle but the soaking is nothing, you just plan one day ahead. Anyone else switch off canned beans or am I late to this party?
