Saw a food bank demo that changed my grocery list approach
I stopped by the community center downtown last Saturday and they were doing a cooking demo with only canned goods and pantry staples. They made a chili for about $1.10 per serving using lentils instead of meat, and honestly it was better than my usual recipe. Has anyone else tried swapping in lentils or beans for ground meat to stretch their grocery budget?
Wait, $1.10 per serving? That's insane. I've been paying like three times that for ground beef chili and it's not even that good. The lentils thing sounds fake until you see it, honestly. I tried it last night with a can of brown lentils and it soaked up the spices way better than meat ever did. My wife thought I switched to some expensive new recipe, ngl. I'm still shook that something that cheap can taste that hearty.
