Hostel vs. Airbnb in Lisbon, the math surprised me
I did 10 nights in Lisbon last month and split it 5/5 between a hostel and an Airbnb. The hostel ran me $28 a night with free breakfast and a shared kitchen, the Airbnb was $52 for a private room but I had to buy every meal. By the end I spent $140 on the hostel stay plus maybe $60 on food, vs $260 on the Airbnb plus $110 on eating out. The hostel had lockers and a social vibe that actually saved me money on group tours since I joined people splitting costs. But the Airbnb gave me a quiet place to work, which I needed for two remote calls. Which do you guys prioritize when the difference is over $100 for a week, savings or sanity?
Quit pretending you're choosing between savings and sanity, you're really choosing between "I might make a friend" and "I can take a call without someone asking if I've tried the pasteis de nata yet." But hey, $100 is like four more pastries a day, so I'd probably lock myself in the Airbnb and eat my feelings.
