Is staying in a hostel in Lisbon for $22 a night actually cheaper than a $95 Airbnb once you add it all up?
Saw a stat last week on a travel blog that hostel prices in Lisbon average $22 a night while private Airbnbs there run about $95. Seems obvious right, hostel wins. But then I started adding stuff up. Lock rental for my bag, breakfast that was free at the Airbnb but not the hostel, the metro ride to the hostel side of town instead of walking from the Airbnb. By the time I priced out a 6 night trip in April it was like $310 vs $340. Twenty two bucks a night is real but the gap shrinks fast. So which one do you actually book? Do you count the hidden stuff or just go by the sticker price?
