Warned my buddy that $9 airport shuttle in Medellin was a scam, turns out I was dead wrong
I told him to just grab a taxi from MDE because I figured any shuttle that cheap had to be sketchy, but he talked me into trying it and it dropped us right in El Poblado for under 30 mil pesos total. The driver even waited 15 minutes while another guy in our van ran back for a jacket he left at baggage claim. Anyone else had a cheap transfer like that actually pan out, or did I just get lucky?
30 mil is honestly about right for that route, nothing sketchy about it. I mean, the official taxi union in Medellin has set rates for airport runs and a shared van cutting that price just makes sense. Your buddy got a good deal and a patient driver, that part is kind of rare though. Maybe it's just me but I'd still rather have my own cab after a long flight, even if it costs a bit more. But yeah you didn't get lucky, you just had the wrong idea about what cheap should mean there.
