I hit $5,000 in my emergency fund and my first thought was that I must have added wrong somewhere
I check my savings every Sunday morning with coffee and a cheap calculator, and when the number read 5,000.12 I actually re-added it three times because I swore I messed up. Sixteen months ago I started putting in $75 a week from my paycheck plus whatever I got from selling old junk on the curb, so the math was never fast or exciting. The funny part is I did a little fist pump in my kitchen, then immediately worried about what big thing would come along and eat it. Turns out a guy at work says his rule is one month of bills per person in the house, so now I am wondering if 5 grand is even the right goal. What number did you all pick for yours, and did you just pick it or did you do some kind of math?
