Broke my favorite pen at a library in Cincinnati and switched to all pencil spreads
I was at the main branch downtown last month working on my weekly log when my fountain pen slipped and the nib bent on the tile floor. After that I grabbed a cheap mechanical pencil from the front desk and honestly my layouts came out cleaner than ever. Has anyone else ditched pens entirely for pencil in their journal?

100% on the erasability thing. Rachel's got the right idea because pencil lets you capture those rough drafts of your thoughts without committing to ink that makes you cringe later. My whole weekly spread uses a 0.5mm mechanical with HB lead and I just erase the sections that didn't work out by Friday.

My friend Rachel had this same thing happen at her college library in Portland. She was using a Pilot G2 and it just stopped writing mid-sentence during finals week. She grabbed a No. 2 from the bowl by the printer and ended up finishing her whole semester planner in pencil. She said the erasability was a GAME CHANGER for her messy brain dumps. Now she keeps a little pencil pouch in her bag and only uses pens for stuff she wants to look permanent.
