Mediation beat litigation for us, $40k in fees vs $6k total
I sat through a three day arbitration in Denver last spring and watched two companies burn $40k on lawyers over a broken lease. The mediator settled a similar dispute for us in one afternoon, cost $6k total, and now I push every contract toward that clause... has anyone else switched after seeing a courtroom bill?
That $6k number is suspiciously clean. Did that cover both sides, or does that just mean your side's bill? In my experience mediation still racks up hours on both ends, just cheaper hours. The real question is whether that savings held up when someone actually violated the agreement six months later and you had to go back to court to enforce it. Those enforcement motions eat the savings pretty fast.
