PSA: I sent a demand letter for a $1,200 invoice and got paid in 4 days
A client in Portland sat on a $1,200 invoice for 94 days, so last Monday I finally sent a short demand letter with a 10 day deadline instead of calling again. His bookkeeper wrote back on Friday and the money hit my account that same afternoon, which I did not expect at all. The thing that seemed to do it was attaching the signed contract and the original invoice with the late fee spelled out in the letter. My lesson is that a plain letter with a deadline and the paper trail behind it did more than a month of friendly emails. Has anyone here had a demand letter backfire and hurt the client relationship?
