Appreciation post: the old guy at the lumber yard who said to keep my chisels sharp
When I first started doing cabinets about 8 years ago, an older guy at the yard in Sacramento told me sharp chisels would save me more time than any power tool, and I shrugged it off. Well after struggling with a set of shaker doors for 2 solid days, I finally sat down and honed my chisels on a waterstone for like an hour. The next door took me 20 minutes. Now I'm kicking myself for all the evenings I spent fighting dull edges. What's the one piece of shop advice you wish you'd listened to right away?
