Pro tip: put a shim under your finish nailer before you pull the trigger

Was face nailing 3/4 inch birch ply boxes for a kitchen in Fairview and my nailer skipped sideways and blew a chunk out of a face frame at 8pm the night before install. Now I hold a 1/8 inch scrap of the same ply tight against the nose so it can't walk, and I keep a tube of burn in sticks in the truck for when it still happens. Anyone got a better trick for nailing near an inside corner without splintering it?

Ever tried nailing at a slight angle so the nail pulls the corner tight instead of pushing it apart? Learning that trick cost me about three face frames, so you're not alone in the splinter club.
