Saw a guy in Cleveland build cabinet doors with hand planes only, no sandpaper at all
Stopped by a small shop near West 25th last Saturday and the owner was finishing a cherry door with a smoothing plane, said he hasn't bought sandpaper in 3 years. The surface looked like glass and he let me run my hand over it, no scratches anywhere. Has anyone here tried going plane-only on doors, or is that just asking for tearout on figured stock?

Did the same on maple drawer fronts last year, 400 grit never touched them lol.
