Visited my dad's old workshop and saw a time capsule of wire chaos

I stopped by my dad's place last Saturday to grab a tool I loaned him. He still has his workbench from the 80s with this tangled mess of extension cords and lamp wires hanging everywhere. There's no cable raceway or velcro straps in sight, just black electrical tape holding everything together. He laughed and said his setup works fine because he knows which wire goes where by memory. It made me realize how much cable management has changed in 40 years. My dad's way is scrappy but honestly sometimes I miss that no-fuss approach. Has anyone else seen a setup that straight up ignores all the modern stuff we talk about here?

Knows which wire goes where by memory" - that's basically my whole approach to cable management in my house. I got a rat's nest behind my TV that would make your dad proud. Electrical tape on everything, zip ties holding up a power strip. It's ugly but it works and I never have to undoomble anything.

My neighbor labeled all his cords with masking tape and sharpie, now they're just fuzzy blobs of mystery.
