Found out aerial drops are only rated for 300 feet, my last one was 410
Been doing residential installs around Dayton for about 7 years now. Yesterday I pulled up the spec sheet on a 500 foot spool we use and it says the drop cable's max run without a mid-span amp or something is 300 feet. But I did a barn install out in the rural part of the county back in April, distance from the pole to the house was 410 feet by my tape measure. It worked fine, signal tested okay. My foreman said it's fine if it works but that got me wondering how many of us are running over spec without knowing it. Do you guys check distance before you string a long drop or just go until the reel runs out? Has anyone actually had a failure from running too long a span?
