My fishtape snapped in a Columbus attic and now I overpack every job
Last month I had a residential job in Columbus where the customer's walls were all blocked with fire stops, and my 100 foot fishtape snapped halfway through the pull. I spent 45 minutes digging through my van for a backup and finally found a coil of steel wire I use for grounding, so I rigged it with a hook and got the line through. The whole job ate an extra hour and the customer kept asking if I was sure about the plan, which did not help my mood. Since then I pack two fishtapes and a magnetic puller on every attic or crawlspace job, no exceptions. Has anyone else had a fishtape fail at the worst possible point, or do you just carry a spare and never think about it again?
