Overheard a guy at the camera store say something about lens caps

I was at Pro Photo in Portland last week getting a filter and this older guy told his friend he never uses lens caps. Said he figures if he's shooting he'd rather just use a hood and a blower than miss a shot fumbling with the cap. It got me thinking how many times I've missed a good moment because I was still taking the cap off. Has anyone else just ditched the rear cap for good?
