That $60 ultrasonic cleaner I cheapened out on finally gave up
Picked up a no-name ultrasonic cleaner for $60 last year to strip shutters and small gears. Worked fine for about 8 months, then the transducer started dying mid-job on a Pentax K1000. Now I'm back to hand-cleaning with a toothbrush and solvent, which is triple the time. Anyone else have a budget cleaner fail on them and go back to the dental pick method?

Man, that timing is brutal. A dead transducer right in the middle of a K1000 job is like the camera gods punishing you for saving a few bucks. My own cheap cleaner died after three months, but honestly it barely worked from day one, so I didn't lose much. Went back to the toothbrush and a jar of lighter fluid, which is basically my whole life now. Bought a used name brand one at a pawn shop for more than I wanted to pay, and it's been going strong for two years. Still, every time I use it I'm half waiting for it to die too, just because that's my luck with this hobby.
