The repair book from 1978 that finally got me to stop over-oiling shutters
I've seen so many people flood a leaf shutter with lighter fluid thinking it'll free up the blades, and honestly I was one of them for years. Then I dug out an old copy of the National Camera Repair Course manual from 1978 that a guy named Hal gave me in Denver, and it says flat out to clean the blades dry and save oil for the pivots only. Since I switched to that method about 3 weeks back, my come-backs on sluggish shutters have dropped to zero so far. Anyone else got an old manual that changed how they work, or am I the last one still reading paper?
