Back when I used a beat up old canvas tent for 8 years before upgrading

I started camping with a heavy canvas tent my dad gave me from the 90s. Every trip I'd spend 20 minutes just wrestling it out of the bag and another 30 trying to get the poles lined up right. Last summer I finally bought a modern lightweight tent at a REI in Denver for $120 and the whole setup takes me 5 minutes now. The difference is huge but I kinda miss the old smell of canvas and the way it felt more solid in the wind. Has anyone else held onto old gear way longer than they should have?

That old tent smell hits different, my back sure doesn't miss wrestling that canvas beast though.

Man I just watched a video the other day about how canvas tents are making a comeback with people who want that old school camping feel. $120 for a tent that sets up in 5 minutes is a steal though, modern gear has come so far.
