Months of patience with a finicky camp stove paid off

It always had issues in cold weather. A simple valve adjustment from an online forum solved everything.

Honestly, I just replace stuff now. That time messing with a balky coffee maker taught me my free time is worth more than a thirty dollar appliance. The new one works perfectly and I didn't waste an hour on some sketchy fix that might not last.

My old Coleman stove had the same cold weather tantrums for two whole seasons. Of course the fix was turning one screw a quarter inch, after I'd already threatened to throw the thing into a lake. It's funny how the solution is always on some random forum page from 2009. I guess we all just enjoy a bit of unnecessary suffering before we finally google it.

My four slice toaster started only browning bread on one side last month. I was ready to buy a new one, but then found a forum post saying to just clean out the crumbs in the bottom tray. It had a full ecosystem of burnt bits in there. We get so used to things being broken that we forget to check for the dumb, easy fix first. I guess our brains are wired to expect the worst case scenario.

Totally read somewhere that our brains are wired to jump to worst case fixes. Makes sense why we'd rather buy new stuff than check the simple stuff first. What's the last thing you almost replaced before finding the easy fix?
