My buddy Rick in Bozeman told me to stop packing my stove inside my cook pot, and I owe him a beer
I always stuffed my Jetboil pot with the stove, a lighter, and a bandana to save room in my pack. Rick pulled everything out on a trip to Hyalite Lake and told me the pot never sits flat so the stove dents and the igniter bends. Sure enough, mine had a bent piezo that took 6 clicks to light in the cold. Rick, if you are reading this, what else am I doing dumb with my pack setup?
Man, Rick's advice goes way deeper than just the pot setup. Your whole pack probably has a dozen little things like that adding up, the stove bumping around, the fuel can rubbing a hole in your tent stuff sack, the bear hang line tangled around everything because it got stuffed wet last time. It's not one dumb habit, it's a hundred tiny ones that only show up when you're cold and tired and miles from the truck.
