Went from a 9 pound pack to a 28 pound pack and back again, here's what I actually carry now
Three summers ago I was all about going light and my base weight was right around 9 pounds for trips in the Ozarks. Then I got rained on for two straight days near Eminence and spent the whole time cold and wet, so I overcorrected and started hauling 28 pounds of "just in case" gear. Carried that brick for a year before my knees started complaining on every climb. Now I'm sitting at about 15 pounds and the biggest change was dropping the second stove and the extra tent footprint. I also moved to a quilt instead of a bag and that alone cut almost 2 pounds. Curious what everyone else's real base weight is and whether you pack for the worst trip you've ever had or the average one.
