That $3 thrift store box I reinforced with packing tape outlasted my $40 storage bin
The bin cracked in 4 months of garage duty while my taped-up cardboard version from the Goodwill on 7th is still holding weights after 2 years, so who else is ditching plastic for layered tape and corrugated?
Man thats wild, I totally disagree. That plastic bin was probably cheap thin crap while you got lucky with a sturdy cardboard box from Goodwill. Tape and corrugated break down in humidity or if a mouse chews through it, and garage temps make the glue fail over time. Plus $40 bins from a real store usually have a warranty, so you couldve just swapped that cracked one for free instead of taping junk together. If you move that cardboard box wrong or it gets damp, its done, but plastic at least has a chance of holding up if you buy the right brand.
