The tape gun incident at my nephew's birthday fort changed my whole build process
Last month I was at my nephew's birthday in Austin and we decided to build a two story cardboard fort in the backyard. Everything was going fine until the cheap packing tape I bought from the dollar store just gave up on a major load bearing seam. The whole second floor pancaked onto the snack table and crushed about 40 bucks worth of cupcakes. My brother in law starts laughing and says 'guess you shoulda used the good stuff' and honestly he was right. I went home and dropped 60 bucks on a real tape gun and the heavy duty 3 inch tape with the fiberglass strands in it. Now I never build anything load bearing without that stuff, it holds like a dream and you can tension it properly. Anyone else had a structural failure that forced you to upgrade your tape game?

Man, that's such a classic lesson. It's funny how we cheap out on the stuff that actually holds things together, like tape or glue or even screws, and then act shocked when it fails at the worst possible moment. It's the same with so many things, you know, the parts you can't see doing the real work are the ones you shouldn't skimp on. Once you learn that the hard way, you never go back, and honestly, your brother in law did you a favor in the long run. Cupcakes are a small price to pay for that kind of clarity.
