The time I used a pizza box to fix my wobbly bookshelf
I had this cheap particle board bookshelf from Target that wobbled like crazy every time I put a book on it, no matter how many times I tightened the screws. Out of desperation I cut a strip from an old pizza box, folded it into a shim, and wedged it under one of the legs and it's been rock solid for two months now. Has anyone else found a weird cardboard trick that saved a piece of furniture?

Dove right into that pizza box trick myself last month when my nightstand started leaning like it was trying to escape. I used a piece of an old frozen pizza box to prop up one corner and now it's steady as a rock. Honestly, cardboard is the unsung hero of every cheap apartment I've ever lived in. I've also used a folded up fast food bag under a wobbly table leg and a toilet paper tube to fix a loose drawer handle. It's like we're all running the same secret society of jerry-riggers and nobody talks about it until someone brings up pizza boxes.

and that's exactly the kind of thing that makes me realize how much of our lives are held together by stuff that was never meant to hold anything together, you know? like, cardboard is secretly the most versatile material on the planet because it's basically just compressed tree fibers with a little glue, so it can be shaped, folded, and stuffed into any tiny gap. i've used cereal box cardboard to stop a dresser from rocking, a toilet paper roll to keep a lamp shade straight, and a flattened Amazon box to level out my washing machine (which is still working, knock on wood). it's almost a life hack at this point where if something's wobbly or loose, i just look around for cardboard before i even think about buying a real shim or leveler. really makes you wonder how many "fixes" we've conditioned ourselves to buy when a free slice of pizza packaging would've done the job from the start.
